Coimbra - The old and the new. One of the historic cities of Portugal, 30 mins away

Batalha a UNESCO world heritage site, the Monastery of Batalha is about 1 hour drive from our house and should not be missed!

Nazaré - An interesting resort town about an hours drive south of Pombal. Very crowded in the summer, quite charming out of season, and home to our friends Sally and Mike who look after the harbour

Obidos - An absolute must see. The ancient walled town, wonderfully preserved, is not spoiled by modern development. Even the newer area is limited in size.

Penela - A cute castle with a great view of the surrounding countryside
